ABOUT POST 7463

Post 7463 was mustered in May 25, 1946 and was named after New Bloomfield, PA son Col. J. Porter Adams. Col. Adams was a Marine officer of the 16th Naval District, headquartered in Cavite, Philippine Islands. Following a Japanese attack, Adams took command of the First Separate Marine Battalion and fought a gallant delaying action as American and Filipino forces were pushed back. Adams assumed command of the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, but became a POW when the regiment was forced to surrender in 1942. Colonel Adams survived years of captivity, but died aboard the hellship Oryoku Maru on January 4, 1945. His remains were never recovered after the war. Colonel Adams was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions in the defense of the Philippines. A small memorial to J. Porter Adams stands in the family plot in New Bloomfield Cemetery.

In 2021, J. Porter Adams Post 7463 (New Bloomfield) and Oliver H. Perry Post 9118 (Landisburg) merged.
